One of the newest developments in
education is taking root right here in Mendota. Illinois Valley Christian
School (IVCS)
which opened its doors in 2003, offers Kindergarten through K- 8th grade
students what can best be described as a hybrid mix of a traditional
school and home school. IVCS utilizes a curriculum developed by
Accelerated Christian Education, a program that is used in over 8000
schools worldwide. It combines the public school benefits of highly
personalized education and an emphasis on Christian character development.

At IVCS , students
are diagnostically tested upon enrollment, ensuring that their
education begins at precisely the right level. For example a student
might be at a third-grade level in math, but fifth-grade-level in
English and Science. Conventional schools cannot accommodate such
realities , resulting in students that are bored in areas they find
easy and developing gaps in areas of difficulty. Once students are
tested at IVCS , they are then assigned to a self paced curriculum and
advance as they demonstrate mastery. Students move independently

In addition to its
unique curriculum IVCS also offers students with opportunities for
spiritual growth and character development. Unlike many private
schools, religious instruction isn't reserved for religion class.
Christian training is integrated into nearly every subject, helping
students to see the relevance of their faith in every aspect of life. |
